LICHTBAKEN from VENLO

Lichtbaken van Venlo An interactive light project in collaboration with Yvonne Rooding On Kaldenkerkerweg in Tegelen is an industrial chimney no less than 70 metres high.
Due to its geographical location this is also the highest point of Venlo.

This monumental chimney is a symbol of the manufacturing industry and its history, but has not had any function apart from that until now.

Each light strip, 31 in total, is individually programmable in terms of color and intensity. And that creates possibilities. This is how color stories / lighting plans are created. This has given the chimney a new function as a means of communication.

The final design is based on the power of simplicity. And on several fronts. This is done by only emphasizing the tension straps with LED light. This emphasizes the unique shape of the chimney.

The basic design is white, so there is no communication. As soon as color is visible, you know there is a story or message behind it. See examples below..
